The 2019 general election will take place on Saturday 31 August from 10am to 8pm.
The last general election was held on 1 September 2015.
Nine political parties
Nine parties will contest the 2019 election, seven existing parties and two new ones – Framtakið fyri rættinum at velja cannabis (the campaign for the right to choose cannabis) and Føroyaflokkurin (the Faroe Party).
More voters
The upcoming election will have about 1,000 more voters than the 2015 election.
Some 3,000 young people will be voting for the first time this year.
Six MPs have so far announced that they will not be standing for this election.
