The government has added independent MP Sonja Jógvansdóttir’s rejected equal opportunities bill to the parliamentary agenda for the new session.
The Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Labour last year proposed a law which bans discrimination and ensures equality in the workplace.
Jógvansdóttir presented the same bill to Parliament on 17 October last year, but it was rejected at the third reading on 24 April this year.
The bill was passed at the second reading a week before the third reading. It was also approved by the Rules Committee, which included a representative from Framsókn (The Progress Party). However, Framsókn then made a U-turn and voted against it at the third reading.
