Health minister answers critics
Nurses and other health workers have voiced their anger over the political administration of the national health service. Some 300 nurses gathered at Saturday’s general meeting of the Nurses’ Union to express their frustrations.
A report from the meeting harshly criticises the political authorities for being more interested in ensuring that the hospital CEO can stick to the budget than establishing a competent management team.
Minister disagrees
But health minister Sirið Stenberg disagrees, insisting that all levels of the Faroese health system have competent management teams.
She adds that a while a hospital CEO is expected to stick to the budget, this should not come as a result of lowering the professional standards.
“We have professional and competent management teams in all our hospitals and institutes under the remit of the Ministry of Health,” she says. “I cannot comment on the structure of the institutions under the Ministry of Social Affairs.”
