Sjálvstýri, the Self-Government Party, is undergoing tumultuous changes ahead of the general election.

At Saturday’s party conference, the party’s national committee decided that Bjørn á Heygum, chairman of the party’s Suðurstreymoy local committee, cannot run for election.

The decision comes after Heygum publicly criticised party leader Jógvan Skorheim, who is mayor of Klaksvík, for prioritising the Klaksvík area over the rest of the country.
