Faroese rower wins World Cup
Sverri Sandberg Nielsen dominated the men’s single sculls category at yesterday’s World Cup in Poznan, Poland.
His initial tactic of securing an early lead paid off well, and he finished more than a boat’s length ahead of number two.
Nielsen competed as part of the Danish national team, and this is the first time ever that the Danish team has won gold in the World Cup single sculls category.
Extra confidence
“The weather conditions were not ideal for rowing,” he said. “But it appeared as if I made the best of the conditions, and that gave me a lot of confidence.”
Nielsen will be back in World Cup action in three weeks’ time at the World Cup III regatta in Holland.
